ICG Competition – 2019 Winners (formerly Teflon™ DSA)


Keen Young Cook Winner

Ruby Dyer, Chancellor's Girls School.

Ruby Dyer, 16, cooked her way to the top of the Keen Young Cooks category in 2019's Teflon™ Diamond Standard Awards. She has secured the opportunity to take up the sponsored three year Specialised Chefs Scholarship with the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and managed by Bournemouth & Poole College.

"I am studying the Food Diploma,  I achieved a level 9 at GCSE, and I look forward to my food lessons throughout the week. I thoroughly enjoy cooking regularly with my mum as well as at school. I would like to win as it will enhance my growing knowledge of cooking in a professional kitchen, which will benefit me as I aspire to study Food and Nutrition as a degree and hopefully become a nutritionist in the future; its where my passion lies."

Ruby beat 12 others to the title in the National Final with her signature bake Poached Haddock Timbale topped with a Quail’s Egg.

Aspiring Student Chef Winner

Lily Stock, Westminster Kingsway College

Lily Stock, 19, impressed the judges with her signature classic with a twist which was inspired by Auguste Escoffier; Tournedos a la Bordelaise.

The Westminster Kingsway College student beat 8 other student chefs in the 

2019 Teflon™ Diamond Standard Awards National Final to win the sponsored three year Specialised Chefs Scholarship with the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and managed by Bournemouth & Poole College along with cash prize and cookware.

"I am a young enthusiastic chef who loves to experiment with different flavours. I am passionate about cooking & love being in the kitchen creating new taste experiences. I would love to win this award to demonstrate just how far I have come on my chefs journey & to put myself under the spotlight & increased pressure of cooking in this environment. I believe I have all the skills necessary to show what a good, young chef can deliver and I cannot wait."

Keen Home Cook Winner

James Hooper, Portsmouth

Our Keen Home Cook champion, James Hooper, cooked his way to the top with his romantic 3-course dinner menu consisting of:


Starter: Seared Scallops with Cucumber Salad

Main: Roasted Duck Breasts with Orange Sauce, Roasted New Potatoes, and Broccoli with Almonds

Dessert: Dark Chocolate Fondants with Chocolate Sauce and Crushed Pistachios

"I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking to invite a graduate engineer at work for dinner; we celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary next May. As my wife works full-time, I cook every day (and do the shopping). My favourite cuisine is Italian although this meal is French influenced. Nigel Slater is my favourite cookery writer; his “30-minute cook" was a lifesaver when the children were small. I think I'm a good cook but winning this competition would prove it."

James will be joining Lesley Waters to partake in a Hands-On-Day at the Lesley Waters Cookery School as part of his foodie weekend for 2 prize.
